Task Instructions
1. Remove Horizontal Tail Tips and set aside.
2. Disconnect elevator pushrod and retain hardware. Discard cotter pin.
3. Disconnect elevator from center hinge and retain hardware.
4. Remove elevator and set aside.
5. Remove elevator center hinge bracket by removing the four bolts securing it to the horizontal tail.
6. Remove the bearing from the center hinge bracket. If necessary, using a heat gun, apply heat to the joint between the bracket and the bearing. Allow the heat gun to dwell above the area for 30 to 45 seconds at a time until the adhesive softens and the bearing can be readily pressed out of the bracket.
7. Using the same methods to heat the remaining adhesive, use a scraper, preferably made from a non-marring material, to remove the softened adhesive material. Be careful not to damage the surrounding substrate during this operation.
8. Remove outboard elevator hinges and retain hardware.
9. Using the same methods employed in steps 6 and 7, remove the worn bearings from the outboard elevator hinges and remove any leftover adhesive.
10. If the flanged bushings at any/all of the 3 hing locations (ICA009413 at each end and ICA009408 at the center) exhibit corrosion or excessive wear, using the same methods employed in steps 6 and 7, remove the bushings from the elevator structure and remove any leftover adhesive.
Verification Method
