ICON A5 Named 2018 Light Sport Aircraft Of The Year By Air.One

The amphibious ICON A5, manufactured by California-based ICON Aircraft, has been named the 2018 Light Sport Aircraft of the Year by air.one, a leading online aircraft sales platform. This recognition was based on the A5’s innovative safety features, leading-edge design characteristics, and enjoyable in-flight experience.

If you have been following ICON, you likely realize that 2017 was a challenging year for us. As we look forward, 2018 is setting up to be a year of progress and opportunity for our position holders. As such, I thought I’d give you a quick update, and do so with our usual candor.

ICON Aircraft Low Altitude Flying Guidelines

ICON Aircraft Founder and CEO Kirk Hawkins announced a new set of low altitude flying guidelines in an email to customers. Low altitude flying can be one of the most rewarding and exciting types of flying possible, but it also comes with an inherent set of additional risks that require additional considerations. These guidelines are intended to help raise awareness and provide some time-tested techniques for low altitude flying to help pilots cope with those additional challenges.

ICON Aircraft Delivers Six A5s to Customers

ICON Aircraft recently resumed customer deliveries. ICON delivered six of its A5 light sport amphibious aircraft to customers in June and July. These are the first customer deliveries the company has made since announcing a production delay last spring.

ICON Aircraft Opens Tampa Flight Center

ICON Aircraft, maker of the revolutionary ICON A5 Light Sport Aircraft, announced the official opening of its ICON Flight Center (IFC) at Tampa’s Peter O. Knight Airport. IFC Tampa joins ICON’s existing IFC in Northern California and will serve as a convenient East Coast hub where A5 deposit holders and the general public can complete flight training and rent aircraft.

ICON Aircraft to In-Source Composites Fabrication at New Facility in Baja California

ICON Aircraft announced the construction of a new facility in Tijuana, Mexico, where it will produce composite airframe components for the A5. As part of a revised production plan announced in May, the company decided to produce its own composite components, a manufacturing process that was previously outsourced to several suppliers.
