Task Instructions
1. Remove the top engine cowling. (Remove Engine Cowlings)
CAUTION:
When performing engine maintenance where the cowling must be removed, always store the cowling in an up-right orientation. The ELT antenna should never contact the ground or other surfaces that could strain and bend the antenna.
2. Inspect the antenna connectors and grounding wires underneath the top cowling (non-painted side) for evidence of corrosion. See Figure 233 for example of corrosion.
Figure 233. Evidence of Corrosion Underneath the Cowl
3. Inspect the steel wire located on the ACK ELT Whip antenna, on top of the cowling (painted side) for evidence of corrosion. See Figure 234 for inspection location.

Verification Method
If there is corrosion present, the entire antenna assembly will need to be removed and replaced. See Transponder and ELT Antenna Replacement. If there is no corrosion, complete logbook entry. (Logbook Instructions)
If there is no corrosion, reinstall engine cowling. (Install Engine Cowlings)
